Visa help

Working in another country usually needs permission to work there. This page explains the common situations so you can ask the right questions. It is not immigration advice.

The basics

  • Each country sets its own rules. What is allowed in one country may be illegal in the next, and the rules change.
  • A visitor or tourist visa usually does not allow paid work. Being paid for a shoot while on one can lead to refusal of entry, removal and bans on future visits.
  • Someone has to apply. In many countries the hiring agency or client sponsors the permit and starts the application. Ask who is doing it, and by when.

Before you book anything

  1. Check the casting’s requirements for the permit or sponsorship the client has stated.
  2. Ask the client in writing whether a work permit is needed, who applies, who pays and how long it takes.
  3. Do not book flights or accommodation until the permit is approved, or until the client has confirmed in writing that they cover the cost if it is not.
  4. Carry your contract, the client’s invitation letter and your permit when you travel.

Where to get real advice

For anything that matters, use the official immigration website of the country you are travelling to, the embassy or consulate, or a qualified immigration adviser. Meridian Models does not give immigration advice and cannot guarantee that a listing is open to your nationality.
